The Day I Died
It hurts when she walks away for the last time

The door closed slowly with a click.

Sadly, I watched her walk away;
    Blending into the life on the street
          until my eyes could no longer
          distinguish between her
          familiar warmth
          and the coldness of strangers.

A single panicked tear
    traced
          the curve of my cheek
          to my neck

Where it choked me like
    the noose
          of a discarded human being.
