DEPICTING THE TERRIBLENESS OF DROUGHT
HARD BITTEN

With teeth of iron
The drought grips body and soul

Starvation rattle bones
Of hungry sheep and cattle

Finance dries away
Along with water in the dams.

His eyes turn heavenward
The farmer pleads

'Just let it rain before
We too must die of ruin'.
