When A Heart Stops
A poem dedicated to hearts stopped by SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome)

It beats and thumps and pitter-pats,
This heart that wears so many hats

A husband, father, brother, son
Oh yes, I think you know the one

He’s in to sports and loves to run
He’s always in on all the fun

Athletic, healthy, handsome, too
He could be any one of you

Then suddenly the heart beat stopped
And like a brick my dear one dropped

This husband, father, brother son
Too soon his life was over, done!

Not one could give an answer why
There was no cause for him to die

Yet he is gone and I remain
My tears my cheeks and pillow stain

Not knowing what to do, I ask
Do you think you’re up to the task?

Please lend support to find a cure
Before this SADS can claim one more

This poem was written for Sarah, who lost her husband to SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome) in June 2007, two weeks after his 24th birthday.

My poem is dedicated not only to Sarah and her children who bravely go on despite their tragic loss, but to all who have suffered similar losses, to those dedicated to finding a cure for this terrible phenomenon, and to all who support this cause through donation or by helping to raise public awareness.

Sarah is compiling a booklet of donated poetry to raise funds to support a charity that has been of great aid and comfort to her family:  SADS UK.  The booklet will be offered as a gift to those who make a donation to the charity.  It will also help to increase public awareness and motivate others to support the battle against SADS.

Peace, blessings, and comfort,
Deborah
