A narrow cylinder of flickering light illuminated the swirling dust which had lain undisturbed for countless eons. The stale, musty odor was sufficient evidence that the cavernous space beyond the crack in the wall had long been sealed off, untouched by human hands; unseen by human eyes.
“What do you see?” asked the archaeologist’s sponsor, breathlessly looking over his shoulder. “Is there anything in there?” Howard Carter struck another match, inserted his hand through the crack, and peered inside. A gasp of awe escaped his lips, “I see wondrous things,” he replied, withdrawing his hand. “Many wondrous things, indeed.” 99 words
