"Woe, I have to run," Heather jumped up from her chair. "I'm due at work in ten minutes."
"Get your coat on and I'll refill your drink," I said, taking her cup and walking toward the soda fountain. "Thanks, Mom." As I glanced out the window the cup slipped from my grasp, scattering ice cubes all over the floor. I stood frozen in place staring at the driver of the car parked in the drive-thru lane. "Mom, are you alright?" Heather asked, concerned. She followed my gaze and her mouth gaped open. "Mom? That lady looks exactly like you." I couldn't find words; I could only nod. The lady in the car stared back with eyes the same color blue. She pushed an auburn curl from her forehead, prompting me to do the same. The cashier swept the ice into the dustpan. "Is that your sister?" she asked, glancing back and forth. "I've never met her," I answered. I rushed out the front door, just in time to see the lady in the car drive by and park further down the lot. I knew her hand immediately as she reached for mine. "Sharon! Is that you?" My 'twin' giggled, grasped the skin beneath her collar and pulled. Tears were streaming down her cheeks as she gasped, "You should have seen your face...oh wait, you did." "How'd you do that?" Heather asked. "This guy at work makes rubber masks so I took him a photo; great job, huh?" "But how did you know where to find me?" I stammered, still shocked. "I always know where to find you, Sissy," she laughed. "You're predictable; it's Wednesday: you and Heather meet at Taco Bell and sit at the corner table before she heads to work." 300 words Winner: "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge"
