hurrying on the freeway
A Whitney poem about commuter's strife

very sad
this happening -
rush hour noise
they’re forever
hurrying
screaming behind
dark insulating windows

frustration
builds thick smokescreens
inside though,
music, the car’s
melody,
strikes chords with strife
bellowing calmness and zen

homeward bound
ends in stalemate
late again
four nights of five
the children
dream, fast asleep
leftover pizza and beer

hurrying on the freeway
