ROAD TO WINTER
The road to winter of life Is but a one way street. I have to trudge on it till The dead end I do meet. I have seen the spring when I Was just a little bud, Protected all around from Sun and wind, thorns and mud. I have seen the summer when I had the heat of youth. I cared only for pleasure, Not for truth or untruth. Then came the autumn of life. Shaky looked my fortune. I had weakness in my step. My heart was out of tune. On the road of life I have Traveled far, now I’m tired. God, kindly grant my wish that I may be now retired. * Written in abcb, 7-6-7-6 format. * Initially written as entry no. 464994 in the book "POEMS ABOUT AGEING" M C Gupta 28 October 2006
