I Once Had a Love
poetry contest, mend a broken heart.

This is how I felt when my husband and I divorced 10 years ago...
this could go either way for man or woman, but I know the heart can heal.

I Once Had a Love

My love came to me on bended knee,
he asked for my love and said please.

Will you be my wife, and take me as your man?
I will love and be true, and take you by the hand.

I said yes to him on that bright sunny day,
I believed this man would wash my tears away.

He seemed so honest in his faithful plea,
I didn't look deep enough into his eyes and see.

I was lost in a fantasy of joy and love,
when I should have been praying to the Man above.

Guide me dear lord, so that real love can be mine,
towards the right path so that I don't fall behind.

But I lost sight of the one I should look unto,
that's why this love became deceitfully untrue.

He cheated, beat, and robbed me of myself,
and all he left behind was an empty inner shell.

I don't think I could ever take that chance again,
I could never bring myself to trust another man.

My heart was broken in half, this is sadly true,
I look to me and say, " will this one hurt me too".

They remind me of love, it was supposed to be so new,
when I look upon them , all I think of is you,
and those three words ...... " I Love you."
