Sure,
and soft,
sibilant
whispers of aid,
ventilated life.
I search for hints of you
in the wan waxen statue
pierced and dishonoured by coiled tubes,
waves of chemicals renew assault,
impassive gaze ignores my fervent pleas

This is not the nurturing warmth always
to be found in outstretched waiting arms,
there is no wise laughter lurking
in the depths of your brown eyes.
Only the shell remains,
to record silent
vigil. Forlorn
wait for that
farewell,
Dad.
