Abandoned
An abandoned love, much like an old abondoned car.

Abandoned

A familiar restlessness
in the once still air,
swells against the weathered remains
of abandonment.
Like a sharp, jagged wind, he returns
and her rust streaked shoulders sag,
unnerved by his nearness.
Her internal essence,
sullen, silent and empty.
All around, golden grasses shudder
while overhead, tangled branches
twitch in his presence.
A hawk's far-off screech, nearly unnoticed,
lingers in the drifting air,
as if a ghostly echo.
His forever voice whistles
through her broken panes,
stirring layers of the past
deeply buried in corners of her soul—
some unremembered time,
some long forgotten words,
an unforgiven lover—
gone again.
Beneath the dust of memories
lies the vestige of love,
alone, once more, with the shadows.
