Pride and Playfulness
A poem inspired by getting my butt kicked in bowling (I bowl twice a week in league).

I’ve been proud of my compassionate humility;
But when push came to shove, my pride I could not see –
For all of us know how truthful we play,
That results come to those who work everyday.
But smart as we are, we’re too shallow to admit
That our yearning is so our pride won’t take a hit.

The truth is so common, we’re not great, so we say;
We’re aware that we’re good – that we have things our way…
Then a rightful king comes and claims all our spoils.
We say it’s not fair, and our spirit just roils.
We struggle so, that we’re not accountable –
Our power is lacking - we feel so unstable!

I say, how you play is where you are –
You got there convinced you’re some kind of star!
Don't give away what you now know is pride –
Feel that sense of worth deep inside.
Just go bananas, with a playful roar –
Pride got you there, now that’s how you’ll soar!
