The Eternal Flame
My first sonnet, written for my creative writing class. And a contest.

The gaze that on my face burned brilliantly--
Not simply the good friend I thought you once--
I watched your face and saw you smile at me
Brighter than the light of a thousand suns.
If I tremble, let me tremble bravely;
The thought of losing you grips me with fear.
You drew me to your embrace so ably,
I never thought that I'd hold you so dear.
I had a past as dark and black as pitch,
It seemed forever night and never day.
My broken heart lay shattered into bits;
You picked them up and loved me anyway.
Just one kiss and my heart leapt into flight--
Who knew the flame of love could burn so bright?
