The velvet midnight sky is gently strewn
With stars that wink and flicker in the night, A swirling, mystic pattern ‘round the moon: A gleaming orb that sets the dark alight. I lie on dew-flecked grass to catch the sight Of mysteries unveiled before my eyes, Yet still I cannot fathom stars so bright And planets sailing through the inky skies. For me, the night has one more sweet surprise: A star pulls free of bonds and surfs the beams Of light to Earth; in joy and fun it flies And falls right from the sky, or so it seems. At dawn the glowing stars seem to disperse; I fall asleep beneath the universe.
