Ancient Wisdom
Many dozen virgin births, Many suffering Christs. A thousand teachers of the light Led us through our darkest nights. The Avatars who led the way All share a similar fate They lived; they taught and showed the way Then died because of hate. There's Hermes, Balder, Adonis, Krishna, Bacchus and Horus too. There's Attis, Mithras and Deva Tat, Tammuz the Syrian to name but a few. The spiritual gods of yesteryear All died for our salvation. Then Christianity came along Demanding literal interpretation. Ancient wisdom must not be forgot As the foundation of our knowledge From whence today's religion came This fact we must acknowledge. April ‘08 20 lines From the study of comparative religion we are learning that today's religion has eons of pre-Christian history from the Vedic wisdom of India to the Norse myths of Scandinavia. Pagan myths are not fairy tales; they were the spiritual religion of the ancients. It was not until the present day Christianity was developed that there was persistence that the myths became literal.
