The laundry lady folds
into a fine square
the towel she now holds
to stack on the stair

Into a fine square
while monkeys with head colds
and nothing to wear
a harried mother scolds

the towel she now holds
once stacked in a layer
released its lovely folds
falling from the stair

to stack on the stair
she has often been told
is a poor affair
for children can be bold
