on the town
a bit of fun concerning an imaginary evening out with friends

cognac speaks freely at a table of teak
cigarette smoke mimes our jovial laughter
others drink wine, and margaritas are fine
a night of friendly conversational chatter

a quick meal announces the melodramatic zeal
steam-cooked veggies anticipate Puccini
as Cio Cio San dies, the ladies wither and cry
the gents regret not asking for zucchini

before taking the metro, they needed Cointreau
diluting the deathly romance from the opera
men talked of moon walking while the girls still swooned,
the tenor resembled Antonio Banderas

too quickly does it end, this evening with friends
the gals propose the No Theatre next week
but drunken or not, the guys simply won't comply
next Tuesday it's Rolland Garros they'll seek!
