How to create a book, build chapters and post them as links
How to... Create a Book


There are five different sub types of Book item at Writing.Com. The following are descriptions of each sub type, as well as their uses and limitations, and is quoted from the site literature help topic found here:

*Bullet*Collection
A Collection can be any combination of works that come together to form one larger work. The works included can be poetry, articles, stories, etc.
A Collection is limited to 50 entries maximum.

*Bullet*Journal
A Journal is used as a diary, to record experiences or just to log ideas regularly for later use.
A Journal is limited to 725 entries maximum.

*Bullet*Novel
The dictionary definition of a novel is: an invented prose narrative that is usually long and complex and deals especially with human experience through a usually connected sequence of events.
A novel can hold up to 100 entries (chapters) maximum.

*Bullet*Novella
The dictionary definition of a novella is: a work of fiction intermediate in length and complexity between a short story and a novel.
A novella can hold up to 25 entries (chapters) maximum.

*Bullet*Short Story
The dictionary definition of a short story is: an invented prose narrative shorter than a novel usually dealing with a few characters and aiming at unity of effect and often concentrating on the creation of mood rather than plot.
A Short Story can hold up to 10 entries (chapters) maximum.

*Check2* Upgraded Members + can create book items.
*Check2* Click 'Site Navigation' and choose 'Site Tools' and 'create and item'
*Check2* Choose 'Book' and fill in your Book's title as the title
*Check2* At 'item type' click on any of the above sub-groups which best fits your purpose
*Check2* Pop in a brief description
*Check2* Section 2 allows you to set a content rating. You should consider the highest rating for any one chapter to be the overall rating for the book (in other words, it is best to go for the highest rating you deem appropriate) For guidance on choosing a rating please see "Content Rating System (CRS)
*Check2* Set your access restrictions as you desire and be sure to take time to fill in your 3 x genre choice fields at Section 3, and highlight keywords. This means anyone surfing the site, or other search engines will be made aware of your work and will help get you more readers *Smile*
*Check2* In the main item body of Section 4, deliver an interesting blurb. Use oodles of snazzy images and LOTS OF PRETTY WritingML *Delight* *Exclaim*
*Check2* in Section 5 chose an entry format which supports your ideas for your book, if you are unsure, click on the little red ? and look at the guidance notes
*Check2* SAVE and make a note of your new items ID number.

You are now ready to add chapters to your book *Delight*

Add an entry

*Check3* Look at your book from its main page and click 'Add a new entry'
*Check3* Enter your title and choose an access restriction
*Check3* Add your chapter in the entry body field!
*Check3* You can spell check and preview and save by clicking any of the bottom buttons.

Linking Entries


Just like posting a "bitem" link in a forum. You can post your link to a particular chapter/entry in a book

To link an entry:
Type {entry:####} - substituting the # for the ID number of the chapter/entry (you can find this on the main book page next to the individual chapter/entry)

To link a blog:
'edit text & special settings' and enter the item ID number in the 'blog item ID' field

Once you submitted your changes you can just hit the 'My Blog' link and you can blog away to your hearts content *Delight*
