Lies
When the fountain of youth runs dry--lie.

Laughter floats from crimson lips;
matching jewels adorn my neck.
Where gemstones flash, men twist to see
this fountain of vitality.

Trembling fingers light on glass
clutch the liquid glow of gold--
here sing more rubies, diamonds, wealth--
putting on a show of health.

Maturity looks good on me,
mother's curves to fill black silk,
know when to smile a charming blush
or speak to break an awkward hush.

Thick hair retains an auburn tint
that hints of lies untold.
My burning eyes hold youth's disguise:
but oh--my hands are old.
