"Dear we need to talk," Mr. Dunford called out. Sheri got up from the couch holding her back moving as fast as she could into the kitchen being four months pregnant. "Is something wrong honey?" asked Mrs. Dunford? " I just got a letter telling me to return to base," replied Mr. Dunford. "Already! It seems you just got back. When are you leaving?" asked Sheri. " I have to leave on Thursday and I'm not sure how long I'll be gone," said Dunford. Just then Sara their seventeen-year-old daughter came bounding down the stairs. " Mom can I go to... She stopped mid sentence seeing the faces of her parents. She asked, "What is going on?" Mrs. Dunford reached out to Sara. "Honey, your father has to leave for the base on Thursday." "What! Again already! "You only have been home a month," said Sara. Her father glanced down, and then he looked up at Sara. "Sara, when I went on leave, I knew I wouldn't be home for long but I didn't know when I would go back," replied Mr. Dunford. "Dad, I know you love what you do, and you also love us. And what you are doing isn't only protecting us but other families too, but you are always gone. We need you here." Sara knew her father couldn't stay even if she begged and begged. "You are going to miss my eighteenth birthday. Which is fine because I know you will be thinking about me," said Sara " I hate to leave you both and to miss my little girl's birthday but, this is what I have to do," said Dad. " Kyle we understand being a soldier is your job and we both accept it," replied Mrs. Dunford. They tried to do a group hug. "Mom I can't reach dad because your stomach is in the way," Sara laughed. "Well I can't help it if your sister Kelly wants a hug too," said Mom smiling. "I'm getting a sister!" screamed Sara. " We found out last week, but we didn't want to tell you so soon, but now you know," replied Mrs. Dunford. Mr. Dunford left for Fort Hood. He told his family if he were shipped out soon, he would call and let them know. Sara was hoping for her mom sake that her dad didn't have to call them that he has to go over seas. She knew her mom worried about her dad when he was gone. A few weeks pasted since Mr. Dunford had left. Sara had turned eighteen. Her dad sent her a birthday card. Then the call came Sargent Dunford was being sent over seas. Mrs. Dunford & Sara hardly heard from Mr. Dunford. A month or so had passed and Sheri was getting close to her delivery time. One afternoon Mrs. Dunford called Sara. "Dear I think it is time for Kelly to come." Sara put her mother's stuff in the car and she came back to get her mom, when she heard the doorbell ring. Sara thought, I have enough time to get the door. It doesn't look mom is going to go into labor right now. When she opened the door she saw a soldier standing there. She knew something happened to her dad. "Are you Sargent Dunford's daughter the man asked? "Yes, did something happened to my dad," asked Sara. "He caught in I an cross fire and was wounded. He wound isn't very bad and he is getting treatment," replied the soldier. "Thank you for letting us know good by," said Sara. She closed the door and her mother came into the room. "Who was at the door,"asked Mrs. Dunford? Sara's mom was having contractions ever so often. "Mom, we need to get you to the hospital before you have Kelly right here," said Sara. "Answer my question Sara," said Mrs. Dunford. "Don't get worried he is going to be fine. He wasn't hurt bad," explained Sara. "Who isn't hurt bad Sara, tell me," replied Sheri. " Mom, dad was caught in a cross fire and was wounded but he is being treated," answered Sara. "Your father needs me I have to go to him," said Mrs. Dunford. Well Sara knew is her mom got this way she might go into labor. Mrs. Dunford looked at Sara and said, "I think she is coming." Sara jumped over the couch grabbed the phone and called 911. She told them what the problem was and gave them her address. They got there in a few minutes and took Mrs. Dunford to the hospital. Kelly came out right away and every thing was fine. Kelly looked like her father with black hair and brown eyes. Sara had graduated and was in her second year of college when her mom called. "Sara I have some bad news." Sara heard her mom crying on the phone. "Mom what is wrong? Is it Dad?" asked Sara. "Yes dear, he is gone." " No not Dad!" cried Sara. "I wanted to tell you in person," said Mom. "Mom how are you doing," asked Sara? "I'm holding up all right for now," answered Mrs. Dunford. "The funeral is going to be in two weeks," she added. "I'll come home as soon as I can. I have finals the next few days then I'll be home," replied Sara. "Kelly need to be fed so I have to go," said Mrs. Dunford. "Thanks mom for calling. Call me if you need to talk," answered Sara. After she hung up the phone her roommate came in. " Is every thing all right? Josh is down stairs waiting for you," said Kim. "Kim, my dad was killed," answered Sara. "I'm so sorry Sara. Is there anything I can do?" asked Kim. "Just be here for me," replied Sara. "Do you want me to go tell Josh that you can't go with him," asked Kim. "No, I better go tell him so he won't think I'm standing him up," replied Sara. She went to the lobby and talked to Josh. "Sara if you need any thing just let me know," said Josh. "Thanks Kim said the same thing," said Sara. "I'll be with you on the way home," said Josh. "You don't live in Texas," said Sara. "I have an Uncle who has a small ranch near where you live," replied Josh. The rest of the time flew by and Sara was home before she knew it. Mrs. Dunford and Kelly came to the airport. Josh was going to rent a car and then drive to his Uncle's house. But Mrs. Dunford had other plans. "Josh, you don't need to get a car when we can drive you to your Uncles. It is only a thirty-minute drive. I have the extra room all ready for you," replied Mrs. Dunford. "Thank you Mrs. Dunford. I'll take you up on that," replied Josh. " Then lets get your bags and get a bite to eat," said Sheri. Josh had met Mrs. Dunford last summer when she and Kelly came and picked up Sara at college in Florida. Josh had met Sara her second year of college. Josh had gone to college in Ohio for one year then he transferred down to Florida to finish college. Josh had been thinking, praying and talking with his pastor & parents for the past year about if it was God's will for him to court Sara. Josh spent the night at the Dunford's house then the next day they took Josh to his Uncle's ranch. After Josh introduced his Aunt & Uncle to Sara's family, they went out side together. Kelly saw the horses. "Ride horse! Ride horse!" she exclaimed. Josh looked at Mrs. Dunford. " O, I would love to ride a horse. I haven't ridden for a long time," said Sheri. Josh and his Uncle got the horses saddled. They had ridden for a while when Kelly's head began to droop. Sara took her back to the house. Josh saw this was a good time to speak to Mrs. Dunford. "Mrs. Dunford, if your husband was here I would be asking him this question. I'm sorry he isn't here, I have prayed about it and talked to my parents. Now I'm asking you, Mrs. Dunford may I court your daughter," asked Josh. "Josh, I'll have to say yes. I know you may think that was a fast answer, but Josh I have been praying since Sara was little that God would bring the right man at the right time for Sara." said Mrs. Dunford. Sara had no idea what Josh had asked her mom. The next day Josh's Aunt Pam packed a picnic lunch and everyone went to the Tyler Rose Garden. Josh and Sara went off a little ways from the group. Sara had sat on a bench looking at all the flowers. "Sara," Josh said her name and when she look at him he was down on one knee. " Would you please give me the honor of courting you," asked Josh with a smile on his face and sparkles in his eyes. "O Josh, I would be honored too! When all this was happening Sara's mom was taking pictures. She took the pictures with out them knowing! Josh stayed at his Uncles' for about a month then he went home for the rest of the summer. When Sara got back to school she told her friends what happened over the summer and they were all glad for her. Josh was studying to be a pastor in college. Josh and Sara married in August of the year they graduated college. After they married Josh took a small church in Texas. Sara loved being a pastor's wife. She was the church go from thirty people to two hundred. Kelly went to the same college as Sara had. Kelly traveled with the college's singing group. That was how she met her husband who was a youth pastor at one of the churches she sang at. After She finished school she married Aaron. Mrs. Dunford was please with her daughter and who the Lord sent to be their husbands. Mrs. Dunford knew that their father would be very proud of them too.
