Miss Kitty

I looked out on my driveway one day
and what did I see?
This beautiful cat looking back at me,
we gazed at each other for a moment,
then she meowed in a kind sort of way.

I responded with a smile and a,
"Well hello to you too."
She wiggled her tail, and perked up her ears,
again she replied, with an oh so mellow, "meow".
It was though she had not a friend in the world.

I went a little closer, she sat perfectly still,
I bent down to get a closer look at her,
she was most definitely checking me out as well.
She had the most striking green eyes
I have ever seen.

I then asked her if she was thirsty?
And a whole new conversation began.
She meowed in a much louder tone,
To my surprise, she came a bit closer
She then began to lean her head against my leg,
and rub it back and forth, very gently.

I told her, you wait here," I'll get you something to eat".
I brought out food and water.
She began to eat, then she stopped for a moment,
and gave me a thank you "meow."
Then I went back in side.

After a bit, I looked out the window, she was not there,
later that afternoon, my son came home from school .
he walked through the door, and said, "Mom, there is
a cat sleeping on the porch". We went to take a peek,
there she was curled up on the mat, fast asleep.

We went back inside, hoping she would have a nap
then be on her way, but that was not to be.
For the next morning, I heard a meow at the back door,
upon opening the door, here she sat, looking at me,
as though we had been friends forever, she then gave me
her most loving meow, meow, Some how I knew she wasn't
going anywhere.

Now, five years later, here she stays, home sweet home.
And not a day goes by, that she doesn't tell us,in her own small way,
how grateful she is that we let her stay.

We call her, Miss Kitty and to that she simply replies, "MEOW".
