" Amidst the sulky dreams of the darkest caverns lies the home of the crystal wyrms. Their meddling is felt by human kind over the surface of Gaea and their power is felt by the aging planet herself.
Three little bodies tucked away in a trundle bed floating through space except the wyrms have managed to steal all of the covers. Frozen into a mist of self-acknowledgment and pure ego these beasts center around crystals which mimic their own mental attributes using them to garner enough power to influence the minds of mortals, to bully their worship and grow fat on their fear. It was one such wyrm Blight-mind who created the myth of Lucifer and watched the small minded humans tear each other apart in the fury to please the telepathic drake's dark fantasies. Some of the dragons have faded over the millennia choosing not to exist rather than snack upon the wispy selfishness of human thoughts. Others have made a killing and have grown so fat as to need entire caverns or complex crystal clusters to house their gaping minds. The dragons were the first beings created by the swirling cosmos and think of themselves as the true hierarchy of the universe. Some have even chosen self imposed exile upon uninhabited planets feeding upon the distant impulses of white dwarfs stars suffering or planets hurtling into stars gone supernova; the screams of the galaxy stretching, growing, and sometimes dying. Blight-Mind has created such a cavern calling it "the abomination" this being a cavern created completely of crystals having once been the drake's kin or other wyrms which passed on slightly before Blight-Mind's time. The magnetic draw from the hematite which made up the caverns walls enhances the power of the scrying crystals and has allowed Blight-Mind to take human form upon the planet at his strongest times. Making intricate pacts with mortals and then leaving them destroyed has been Blight-Mind's greatest joy. Rasputin, Crowley, Baba-Bael the seer, Henry Kissinger, Karl Hofhauser to name a few of the mortals which have housed Blight-Mind for a time. It was the great black wyrm which helped concoct witchcraft as we know it today and bloodletting within the occult has been one of its greatest accomplishments. Though the wyrm has very little in the way of physical form outside of its cavern, within "The Abomination" the shadows grow and the crystals become cloudy reflecting a blood red eye of such menevolence almost all of Lovecraft's writings are on the subject of one glance made in his infancy. Blight-Mind is not evil per se, its mind is above good and evil but evil is a tool the wyrm has counted on to spread its empire. How else can you expect humans to make a 180 degree turn and destroy everything they had just created? Blight-Mind is not the most powerful crystal Drake though it has been in the memory of the oldest crystal drakes in existence. On this specific night the great wyrm can be found raising power in the chamber of Abomination and channeling its power into a group of Black Sorcerers somewhere on the North American continent. The young mammals quiver with the power each of them attributing it to their own power or to the power of their selected deity. This does not bother the great Blight-Mind it is through these meetings that the minds of the humans are sized up to find a suitable match. Again Blight-Mind is stricken with intense sadness for his hold upon the mind is greatly harmed if a suitable match cannot be found but with the last draught of infused power the wyrm inflicts upon their minds a series of suggestions that would make them suitable in the future "a.aaa.ahghg.hunger.,pride.,.power..hatred.a.agh.aa.a.a..hunger.,.pride..power,..hatred...seek.me.in thy.dreams.imitate my.madness.and receive.my gift..." With this the drake's power over the circle has subsided and with the sudden vacuum in power the humans gathering is raided by a host of foreign entities which have waited patiently for the shimmering dragon to leave so they could search through the scraps. With this Blight-Mind sees itself in the Abomination and is instantly transported there to view its many precious stones, each one a decanter to hold a portion of the wyrm's psychic girth. Having drawn upon the fullness of its rage the dragon lowers its heavy lidded eyes and sleeps until it is called again by the mortal ego searching for power much too quickly. Again the wyrm's mind is silent and elsewhere on the planet many who are sensitive to the beast are relieved though they have no idea what it is that puts them ill at ease." (793 words) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thank you for the opportunity to compete, please see my ideal of the dragon as more of a creature born to our own reality as opposed to one of fantasy; though they say reality can be more fantastic than fantasy at times.
