Freedom, Oh Freedom
Is life so free and easy as it was a long time ago?

Freedom, Oh Freedom!

Is America really the land of the free?
When I have to use three locks on a door to guarantee
That a man who has a gun will not try to take my life.
Or a kid who is on drugs, wants to cut me with a knife?

That my computer which I use for paying bills absentee
Has a firewall protection loaded, that's not completely free.
As a hacker surfs the net to read what he should not
For info on an online item, that late at night I bought.

I must go through checkpoints shoeless,
When I use airlines to see my Aunt Bess.
Because a madman was really a terrorist
And his pledge to kill others did persist.

At my bank I can't be careless with my writing or a check.
My deposit slip is tempting to a man in a blue turtleneck.
His cell phone camera has a clear view, of my bank account
And modern technology gives him more than my check's amount.

I watch my little children when they go outside to play
Because they could be picked by a predator, on this lovely summer day.
When they want to be out playing on a swing or a slide
He comes with lies and candy so his sickness he can hide.

I use to think that freedom was something that I could keep.
I love to dream of happiness when at night I go to sleep.
But now I see the news and some people who live in fear.
I love my home in America, but maybe I'll feel freer again, next year.
