S. W. Poet, a dear friend of mine,
said, "Come join my group. You'll fit in just fine!"

"I'm not so creative, but I do like to write.
Maybe I'll check out that website tonight."

A poet . . . you think? . . . is that what I am?
I'll probably fall on my face—kablam!

What surprises I found at Writing.Com,
encouraging words, and real fun for Mom.

I wrote for the joy, not expecting too much.
But maybe, just maybe, I do have the touch!

****Note to Newbies****
Don't let the simplicity of this little poem fool you. I hope my poetry has come along way since this was written, but the message is as true as it ever was. Almost four years later, I am still struggling to find time to do all the things I love doing in this wonderful community. I was willing to give it a try for my friend, SWPoet , but I found so many people who encouraged me to keep writing. They read my poems! And they took time to tell me I had promise. As it turns out, I don't think I'll publish a poetry book any time soon, but I have enjoyed every poem that I wrote and can't bear to delete even the poorest of them.

Writing.com became for me a place where my hunger for learning new things would never be quenched. I hope you will hang around to discover what magic lies ahead for you here.

Never underestimate the power of an encouraging word.
