AN ANGEL'S SMILE

I found my way to Heaven and stayed for awhile
to walk streets of gold and see an angel's smile.
Everything in Heaven is so beautiful and serene,
I could not begin to imagine a more perfect scene.

There was not a bit of sadness, I never shed a tear,
to think I'd left the world behind caused me no fear.
I listened to the music and the song the angels sing,
Listening closely I could even hear a flutter of wing.

Strolling along on those puffy white clouds, I found
so many gardens full of flowers and a grassy mound.
There an angel waited, beckoning with a small cry
and I knew her song at once, my mother's lullaby.

I rushed into her arms and she held me very tight,
then said "you must go back to Earth this night"
I didn't want to leave, I begged her to let me stay,
she shook her head, saying "there will be a day."

A swirling mist surrounded us as we said goodbye
and I am sure I will never know or understand why.
So brief a time in Heaven, but knowing she is there
will help me carry on in this world so full of care.

I found my way to Heaven and stayed for awhile
to walk streets of gold and see an angel's smile.
Everything in Heaven is so beautiful and serene,
it gave me quite a start to realize it was a dream!
