            "The Dolphin in the Moonlight”

  Calm breeze stroked my face,
on a damp bench on a dock.
  Eyes swollen with salty tastes,
    Sitting motionless, like a rock.

  After long prayers, unanswered,
    my heart's chasm wide.
  I heard a sound unnerving,
    and motions in the tide.

A loud whoosh; like sudden wind,
    vanishing just as quick.
I first caught sight of fin,
    It’s rolling body, slick.

  The light had been dim,
    although clear winter night.
  A Dolphin appeared gracefully,
    it crept into my sight.

It was such a magical visitor,
    who somehow seemed to know.
  That my lost, lonesome, stares,
signaled a heart that was broke.

He dove down not 30 feet away,
    disappeared for endless minutes.
And when I thought he escaped my gaze,
    reappeared 4 feet away swimming.

  It eyed me wonderingly,
    his head bobbing gently.
  And with a slight chatter,
he seemed to talk to me.

And grief I felt, caught flight,
    in awe of his presence.
  The Dolphin in the moonlight,
    had reached my heart's essence.

And as amazing is this story,
    as unbelievable this tale.
The truth that only I carry
is one that will never pale.

I thought I had seen it all,
    on that lonesome night's bench.
But I will always remember his call,
and my thoughts he had sensed.
