CURIOSITY

Kat rubbed her hands, the mouse was sticky. Probably his moisturizer, she thought, as the cursor hovered over the new folder in Colin's documents. Kat hesitated a moment longer, before curiosity won. She had to look. He was her husband, he wasn't allowed secrets.  She double clicked the folder.

'Enter password'

Kat entered Colin's usual password. The one that had gotten her this far, but it didn't work. Trust him to suddenly change it, she thought, this was the proof she needed of his infidelity. She tried again.

The second time worded; the folder revealed it's contents. A text file and an image file. Kat clicked on the image first, ignoring the sudden shortness of breath, the slight numbness that penetrated her extremities.

The photograph showed only Colin, holding something, with bright text below saying 'READ THE TEXT FILE'

Sweat began to build on Kat's pale face. This was it, he was finally admitting to the affair she had long ago suspected.

She opened the text file. It was a simple note.

"Hi honey,

If you're reading this it means that you didn't trust me. Fair enough, I suppose, but I had hoped... The thing I'm holding in the picture is a lottery ticket. The winning one, as it happens. If you'd left well enough alone and not looked at this file then I would have sent you half, now though the damage is done. As a result I get to play the grieving widower, who's wife's heart just couldn't take the strain of winning. By now the Deadly Nightshade oil I left on my mouse should be in full flow. I'm already deleting these  files and substituting them with a well thought out suicide note, just in case. I'll miss you, at least for a while..."
