The Angels Came

We stayed with her to calm her fears.
While she slept we shed our tears.

She had fought a good fight,
And soon there'd be no more night.

Our mother lay weak, yet strong.
She'd raised us to know right from wrong.

Time came for her to leave one night, late.
We gathered 'round to help her wait.

Her spirit seemed to need to stay.
I whispered, "Mom, we're here, okay?"

Just then angels came to take her home.
On earth her feet would ne'er more roam.

A gentle smile eased across my face.
My mother was with angels, by God's grace.

Though it pained me to say, "Good-bye,"
I dreamed of her in Heaven, and sighed.

In Heaven there are no tears or pain,
And angels will join us in eternal refrain.
