Bright Night

The stars are harsh on this bright night:
I'm stabbed with light—
It burns a hole
Right through my soul.

Awash with moonbeams—darkness calls,
A teardrop falls;
Serenity
Now beckons me.

I look up at the sparkling skies,
Squeeze shut my eyes,
Take one last breath
Then leap to death.

(Minute Poem: Three stanzas of 8-4-4-4 syllables. Rhyme scheme: aabb ccdd eeff. Written in iambic meter).
