The sound of screeching tires followed by a hollow thud stopped me dead in my tracks. I’d stepped out the door just in time to see the cloud of dust, a crumpled mailbox and shards of broken glass sailing across my lawn. As the car sped away I thought, “I hope they took my bills.”
