It's only a game
Based on a true story

How did it ever come to this?
It’s such a shame to see
A blessed union born of bliss
End with Monopoly

We use to make the clock stand still
Such was our unity
We were untouchable until
We played Monopoly

The die are being kind which spells
A victory for me
I’ve got more houses and hotels
I’ll win Monopoly

Where did all of my good luck go?
What’s happening to me?
You’re such a lucky so and so
I hate Monopoly

I struggled sometimes to explain
How much you meant to me
Until I landed on Park Lane
And lost Monopoly

You really shouldn’t boast and gloat
And act so selfishly
This game just doesn’t float my boat
It’s just Monopoly

In hindsight this was bound to fail,
What chance have we when we
Can fight and argue tooth and nail
Over Monopoly?

I wish we’d never argued so
Or yelled so callously
I love you so - yes, even though
We played Monopoly

It seems to me as clear as day
That we are meant to be
Let’s kiss, make up, and never play
Again, or even dare to say
From now until our dying day,
The word ‘Monopoly’
