This week I'm not asking for any writing. I'd like you to do some research and some thinking and consideration about your own future writing. http://www.holmesonscreen.com/hero.htm has a useful explication of the progress of The Hero's Journey in terms of the Sherlock Holmes oeuvre. I'd like you to read that page. I'd also like you to study summaries at:

Short Answer: Consider how the stages of The Hero's Journey are applicable to your speculative fiction writing in general, and specifically to the story or novel chapter you plan for the Final Assignment. List the stages you plan to include, with a sentence or three about how each of these included stages applies to YOUR story and why.



The Departure and Call to Adventure take place when the most powerful white wizard returns from his home on another planet to investigate the island-planet Fleghorn which he considers in his care.

The refusal of the call is his revulsion of the tribe of human cannibals and having to have to have anything to do with them.

The supernatural aid comes in the form of his own magic that he practices on the tribe with his magic wand.

Crossing the threshold is where the Messenger (angel) begins tapping the life force “juice” of the dying man.

In the belly of the whale is during the. actual physical draining of the juice.

Initiation is where the dying man dies and the juice is collected.

The Road of Trials is where the human race is saved from the application of juice saved from such operations on its dying members.

Meeting with the goddess and woman as temptress was when the Messenger was so amazed by the powers given to his by the white wizard..

Atonement with the father and apotheosis came when the angels knew they had gained control over life and death of humans.

The ultimate boon when the white powers came to understand how powerful they were

The return came when the white powers returned to their home off-planet.

The refusal of return came in the form of the threat of the black powers visiting the planets and stopping the destruction they can do.

The Magic Flight and return from without and crossing the return threshold came in the form of the angels using their wands to exit the planet using the powers given by the white wizard.

Master of two worlds and freedom to live describe the state of the white powers after saving humanity.
