SUMMER

Yea, summertime is nearly here,
colorful flowers and tree's so green,
children laughing, other sounds I hear,
everyone's favorite time of year,
the sweet sounds of nature so serene.

The hickory smell of barbeques going,
our kids and their friends playing "red rover",
sitting under shade trees, the wind blowing,
smelling suntan lotion, chlorine and knowing,
I'd rather jump into the pool, so move over.

The first day of summer will be here so soon,
we will be looking forward, to see the week-end,
lost in thought, can't wait for Friday afternoon,
this saturday coming up is the 21st of June,
Yea! the first day of summer finally did descend.

Now that summer is offically under way,
the children going to camp, the house quiet,
wondering what we'll do while they're away,
why don't we act like kids, let's swim and play...
eat junk food and do away with our balanced diet?

Oh the joys, smiles and laughter these days bring,
the children coming home, our vacation trip starts,
deciding where to go, maybe Colorado Springs,
getting underway, remembering snacks and things,
musing about summer, of the joy that it imparts.

I know in the future I will be looking back...
at these happy days of our sweet summertime,
when they were in camp, making us a plaque,
memories will come flooding in like an attack...
children laughing, learning to write poems that rhyme.
