Against the Wall
A look at what parties have been like for me in the past.

The guests arrive, the party has started,
The refreshments are lined on a table against the wall.

Everyone is greeted at the door, all are welcomed,
Their coats are piled on a chair against the wall.

All around the room, smiling faces, looking
At portraits hanging gently against the wall.

The music starts, people want to dance,
The furniture is pushed against the wall.

People are laughing, relieving stress,
Placing all their worries against the wall.

But not everyone can let go so easily,
And remain silent, against the wall.

The cheery crowd keeps on dancing,
Oblivious to those residing nervously against the wall.

The friendly guests keep on talking,
Unaware of the ones who rest, like ghosts, against the wall.

Those who watch the party go on,
The transparent ones who hide against the wall,

Can do nothing about the invisible force,
That holds them firmly against the wall.

The party goes on, the guest all laugh,
And I remain quietly against the wall.
