Why doesn't God just use a microphone?
A child's ideas.

There are times when I reflect on how incredibly profound a child's ideas can really be. My own little girl provides me with plenty of food for thought, and I thought some of her recent observations were worth sharing.

The death of our beloved fifteen year old dog a while back had my hubby and I at a loss for words. We struggled to express our feelings while we buried her in our yard, following a long illness with cancer. The sun shone brightly, and a Blue Jay was on one side of us, and a beautiful bright red Cardinal landed on the other side of the shady tree. This was her favorite spot in the yard, where she would now rest forever. I remarked with tears in my eyes how there would be no more glorious, sunny summer days for Kera. My daughter had obviously overheard me, and with her sidewalk chalk she drew on the patio a sad face, with a teardrop running down it's cheek.Under the face were written two words.
"POOR MUT." That said it all.

Upon the recent discovery of three earthlike planets, in a very far off solar system, my daughter remarked how it was a good thing they were so far away they were out of our reach. When I questioned her about this, she told me at least we would not have the ability to ruin the planets, before God was ready to use them for the New Heavens and the New Earth He has promised to us.

"I go and prepare a place for you." she reminded me.

I laughed at first, but as the day went on it stuck in my mind and I realized that I could think of no better reason for three huge, massive Earths to suddenly appear out of nowhere, waiting with their own sun, ready to support life. She may have just nailed it, after all.

At bedtime one night, she asked me how we know what is right, and how can we learn what God wants us to do. She had been told to listen for God's advice. She told me she had plugged her ears, and listened with all her heart, and all her might. Nothing. I told her it was a little voice inside of her, and to keep listening. She looked confused for a moment, then blurted out,
"Oh, why on Earth can He not just use a giant microphone, and tell us all what we should do? wouldn't that be a whole lot easier? Then we wouldn't have to guess His will for us."

You know what? That sounds a whole lot easier to me, too.
