A Spectacular Display
A Rondeau Poem about a grand celebration, inspired by a Spasharama image.

A spectacular display of fireworks concludes a night
of holiday festivities to ev'ryone’s delight.
After a day of parades and cookouts, they gather there
to watch crackling starbursts and pink palms rising in the air
amidst the sizzle of red rain that glitters. What a sight!

As much as the garish, whiz-bang pageant does to excite
patriotic fervor in that holiday crowd tonight,
they soon find out that Nature’s version is beyond compare:
a spectacular display.

She stirs electric energy in the air to ignite
blazing bolts of lightning, which explode with horrendous might,
and booming thunder that fiercely shakes the very earth where
they stand, awed by this marvelous event, and join in prayer,
paying homage to a dazzling panorama of light--
a spectacular display!
