“Waiting”

Days
And weeks
And then months
And then a year --
They have all gone by
As I wait here for you.
When will you return to me?
I will wait anxiously each day
Until you are back, safe from Iraq.

They told me today – you will come home,
But you will not be quite the same.
You sacrificed your right arm
But you saved your platoon.
You are a hero.
But I don’t care.
You are here
With me
Now.

A Nonet is a declining poem of nine lines starting with nine syllables and working down to one.
If it is used stanzaically (with 2 or more stanzas), the odd verses are inverted to build from one syllable to nine and creates a Double-Nonet.
A Reversed Nonet would begin with a line of one syllable and work down to nine.

This is a Reversed Double-Nonet.
