January Morning
Written to describe a friendship as it broke apart. (free verse)

I don't know you
Perhaps we met once
In a dream or fancy
Years past in forever
By a dark river on a misty
January morning
In a dead world where
Hope was being born

And perhaps we clung to each other
Elated in the discovery of friendship
Two lost souls
Shining in a dead world

And somewhere in the wilderness of memories
A chasm opened and cracked our remembrance
And we forgot our lollipop dreams and fantasies
The next time I looked at you; the photo album with your face
Had burned, and my eyes betrayed you; no recognition
So I don't know you

But perhaps the mists of January breed phantoms
Perhaps i never knew you
