Once upon a time when the world was young, all the flowers lived on one tiny island in the middle of the sea. The rest of the world had trees and grass but no flowers. All the flowers lived together and were very happy. There was only one way for flowers to grow. This was called the magic kiss. A boy flower had to give the girl flower a magic kiss so the girl flower could grow seeds. Then the girl flower would shake all the seeds off onto the ground and more boy and girl flowers would grow. But there was one problem. You see, the girl flowers were very shy and they were afraid to kiss the boy flowers. Therefore, to overcome the bashful girl flowers fears, the boy flowers would put sweet pollen on their flower lips. The girl flowers loved the taste of this sweet pollen and would overcome their fear and be brave.
This went on for many, many years. This beautiful island could be seen for miles and miles. When the wind was just right, the whole world could smell the beautiful flowers and wish they grew everywhere. One day, Mother Nature was walking through a meadow that was filled with grass. As she walked, the wind blew the smell of the beautiful flowers across the meadow. The meadow loved the smell of flowers and asked, “Mother Nature, why do all the flowers and that wonderful smell only grow on an island? Why can’t some of them live here so I can smell that wonderful aroma every spring and summer?” Mother Nature thought about it and said, “That is a wonderful idea. I think you would be very pretty with wild roses and tulips growing here. Then I would not have to go all the way to the island in the middle of the sea to visit my flowers and see their beauty.” The only way Mother Nature could get the seeds off the island and to the rest of the world was with a great wind so she created a hurricane because she knew that it would take a very big wind to blow the seeds that far from the little island that was way out in the sea. And so, the very first hurricane was born. The mighty storm swept across the little island and blew the little seeds all across the world. When the storm was over, the beautiful flowers grew in the meadow that had asked Mother Nature for them. But when the flowers were all grown up and in full bloom, they realized that they were too far apart to kiss. They grew as long as they could and stretched and stretched but could not reach each other. There were no seed growing that could make more flowers. So all the flowers started crying and all the beautiful colors washed away in the tears. This made the meadow very sad because the beautiful flowers were not beautiful anymore and they did not smell pretty. So the meadow waited for Mother Nature to come back. She waited for a long time but Mother Nature was very busy because the hurricane had blown many of her things out of place and was now deep in the ocean becoming an El Nino. An El Nino is the name of a bad little boy hurricane that heats the water and causes Mother Nature to work overtime. The poor little meadow thought and thought of some way to help the little flowers to kiss so they could make more flowers and be pretty again but it could not come up with any ideas. Then one day, a swarm of bees built a hive at the edge of the meadow. The bees were very slow and did not work very hard because they did not have very much food. Then the meadow came up with an idea. The meadow asked a bee if it could talk to whoever was in charge of the beehive. Soon the Queen of the bees came into the meadow and landed on a rose bush. “Excuse me, Miss Meadow. Did you want to talk to me?” “Why yes,” the meadow replied. “I have an idea that will help all of us.” The Queen was very interested because winter would be coming and her hive was not even close to being ready. “I’m listening.” said the Queen. The meadow told the Queen her idea. “I was wondering if you could help the flowers kiss so they can make more flowers. They are very pretty but they are too far apart to kiss.” The Queen thought about it for a moment and said, “Why would we do that. We have a hive to build and we are already very far behind schedule because we are very tired.” “Well,” said the meadow. “If you can take the flower's kiss to the other flowers, you can keep a little bit of the sweetness for yourselves. It tastes very good and it will give you energy so you can build your hive even faster.” The Queen crawled on the rose and asked, “Excuse me Mr. Rose. If you give me a taste of your kiss, I will take it to Miss Rose for you and keep a little of it for myself. Then I will be able to build my hive before the winter comes.” The little rose bloomed very hard and gave the bee a kiss. The Queen loved the taste of the kiss so she took the kiss to Miss Rose and gave it to her. Sure enough, the bee felt very good and had more energy. So she went back to her lazy hive and told all the bees to go and get boy flower kisses and take them to the girl flowers. Very soon, the meadow was full of beautiful flowers and the Queen's hive was full of busy little bees! Everyone was happy! 994 Words!
