                                          Ghazal 150


Persian:  Ba rah e maikada ushshaaq rast dar tug o taaz
              Hamaan niyaaz keh hajjaj ra ba rah e Hijaaz
Urdu:      Ba rah e maikada ushshaaq ko hay yuin tug o taaz
              Niyaaz jaisay ho hajjaj ko ba rah e Hijaaz

English:=== On the way to the bar the topers feel
                  Like all those pilgrims, a furious zeal
                                                  -

Persian:  Che gooyamat keh zay sooz e daroon cheh meebeenam
              Zay ashk purse hikaayat keh mun niyam ghammaaz
Urdu:      Bataoun kis terheh maen apna raaz e souz e daroun
              In aansooun say meray pooch, maen naheen ghammaaz

English:=== I like to hide my pains, my fears
                  But what do I do with my telltale tears
                                                    -

Persian:  Gharaz karishma e husn ast warna haajit neest
              Jamaal e doulat e Mehmood ra ba zulf e Ayaaz
Urdu:      Karishma husn ka hay, warna kya taaluq tha
              Jamaal e doulat e Mehmood ko ba zulf e Ayaaz

English:=== Oh, love wants beauty and beauty love
                  They're meant for each other like hand and glove
                                                      -

Persian:  Ba heetch dar na rawam baad az ein zay hazrat e dost
              Chun Kaaba yaaftam, aayam zay butparasti baaz
Urdu:      Mila hay Kaaba mujhay aastaan e yaar maen jab
              Maen butparasti say aaya houn daekh ker yeh baaz

English:=== Day and night I live in her street
                  For there I find a peaceful retreat
                                                        -

Persian:  Shabay chuneen ba sahargeh zay bakht meekhaham
              Keh baa to sherh e saranjaam e khud kunam aaghaaz
Urdu:      Hay noor e subha maen too, teergi e shab maen too
              Hay too hi ik mera anjaam, too hi ik aaghaaz

English:=== She is my goddess, my love, my friend
                  She is my beginning and she is the end
                                                        -

Persian:  Tanam zay hijr e to chashm az jahaan faro meedookht
              Umeed e doulat e wasl e to daad jaanam baaz
Urdu:      Firaaq e yaar say milta hay dil ko souz e daroon
              Umeed e wasl peh qaim hay maeri jaan ka saaz

English:=== For me, of life she is the fountainhead
                  For in her abscence I'm worse than dead
                                                        -

Persian:  Cheh halqaha keh zadam bar dar e dil az sar e sooz
              Ba boo e rooz e wisaal e to dar shabaan e daraaz
Urdu:      Na rouz e wasl ki ummeed ho agar dil maen
              Kataen yeh kaisay teray hijr maen shabaan e daraaz

English:=== And though I see no hope, no sign
                  I feel someday she's going to be mine
                                                        -

Persian:  Chu ghuncha sirr e nihafta nihaan kuja maanad
              Dil e mara keh naseem e sabaast mehram e raaz
Urdu:      Rakhoun maen kaisay nihaan raaz ghuncha e dil maen
              Naseem e kucha e jaanaan agar ho mehram e raaz

English:=== I try to hide the way I feel
                  But my love for her I cannot conceal
                                                            -

Persian:  Zay shouq e majlis e aan mah e khargahi HAFIZ
              Garat chu shamay jafaay rasad, basooz o basaaz
Urdu:      Jafaen majlis e jaanaan maen ger milaen HAFIZ
              Misaal e shama too jal raat bhar ba souz o ba saaz

English:=== O HAFIZ, this love is a deadly game
                  For I'm the moth, and she is the flame
                                                        ====
