This rant is about airlines.
I fly about 150,000 miles a year. My primary airline is United although about 25% of my flights are on other airlines. I have been flying for about 20 years so I have lots of history. For the purposes of this essay, I will only begin with today. July 16,2008 Several major airlines are looking to go bankrupt and may liquidate much of their fleets. I don't understand how U.S. airlines can be in such poor shape while European airlines are doing great. Nickle and dime policies like charging for a coke seem more like spite instead of revenue generation. Charging people to check a bag simply means fuller overhead spaces. There are more fliers than ever. Prices are lower than ever. Raise the prices! I am serious. I don't want these airlines to fail. I need them to make my living. I bet if they doubled their prices, occupancy will fall by less than half thereby increasing revenue.
