Cool winter wind blew over the vast dreary gray landscape, adding to the feel of the golden glow of the silent evening. Night had slowly crept towards the only soul that sat under the white old gum tree that grew by the silver bubbling creek. He hadn’t noticed the bright starry night until it was upon him. The stars shone an endless glow, natures own beautiful light gleaming contentedly down upon the earth. Brilliant moonlight danced across the land, it played and sung with joy as magical Irish songs filled his head. Thoughts raced across his mind, chaos compared with the stunning moonlit night.
That calm evening, David had taken a stroll out into the dying evening light, out into nature where he could think clearly. Now as the darkness loomed over him, he started to think about heading back home. Though, there was a slit of orange that still could be seen in the far distance and with that he decided to wait a little longer. Although he wasn’t relatively convinced that he really wanted to stay, it felt like something else was keeping him there.
He was twenty-one and he was wondering if the last few years of his life actually meant anything. Two years ago everything started to go down hill, a never ending rollercoaster of emotions. It was if he had never seen what was coming. He thought that he would never have to deal with being in love for a few more years yet, but he was wrong. His mother had told him many times before that it would come upon him like a snap of the fingers, but he never believed it. Now he wished he did, because his endless flowing thoughts and feelings were tormenting his mind and he wished it would just stop. His feelings for Ivy hadn’t wavered for the past two years; they were even stronger now then before.
He hung his head in shame, he shouldn’t be thinking so much about someone he hardly even knew; he didn’t even know what her favourite colour was. The cool air picked up and blew around his light brown chaotic hair, it pressed gently against his aching face. Sliding his fingers hurriedly through it, he wondered if he was going to ever talk to her. It was like everything he wanted to do was impossible and improbable. Strings played in his mind again, a heartbreaking slow familiar tune that brought a tear to his eye. Nothing was going right; nothing was ever going to happen and he would never be able to touch her, to feel her gentle soft skin against his; or to hear her delicate voice drift through his ears.
She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen in his life. Her brown wavy hair always sat on her shoulders, adding to the delicate beauty of her face. Green mysterious eyes always shone and twinkled like the night sky every time they glanced his way. It was if she was trying to tell him something, wanting him to know everything she knew. No matter what she did, she always looked his way. Everything made her so beautiful to him and he was so frightened if she found out his feelings for her. She also adored children, each and everyone, it made him long for her even more. They’d laughed and squealed as she chased them around, faces bright and full of joy. Her intense smile grew on her lips as she caught them all together in her arms, their screams of joy and laughter of surprise grew and their faces shone even brighter.

The dark gloomy night sat heavily in Ivy’s room. It etched into every corner and every thought that flew across her dreary tired eyes. As the wind blew quietly outside, her heavy curtain lifted up with life, letting the cool silky moonlight slip through. It shimmered softly as clouds rolled past, dancing joyfully in the wind. An Irish song edged its way to the front of her mind, she loved Irish songs. Ivy’s face lit up a little, a smile lingered in the corner of her mouth, and it was the first time she had smiled in ages.
Ivy sat in her room that night, contemplating her future. She sat up in bed trying to think clearly. Though she couldn’t, it was like she had a stack of useless thoughts and feelings, piled up one by one on top of each other and they were getting in her way. It was starting to get late, the moonlight had shifted onto the near by clock on the mantel, telling Ivy that she should get some rest. She was tired and worn out, her soft green eyes had swallowed deeply and her brown wavy hair was tatted and rough, and it was now a job and a half just to make her self look decent. Though, that night something kept her up.
She was seventeen and the past few years had used up all of her will power and strength. It would have been better to give up two years ago, instead of wishing and hoping that one day he would notice her. It killed her inside every time he walked past her, wanting to hold him, needing him. What was she to do? This constant thinking of him was wearing her down and it was doing her no good. The longer she was without him, the more she loved him.
The long cool night dragged on and the thought of never being with him broke her fragile aching heart. Gleaming silver tears started to fall, one by one rolling silently down her cheeks. Ivy collapsed into a heap on the bed and just cried, something had stirred her deeply up inside.

David had straightened up a little, tears stung sharply at the corners of his eyes. He ran his fingers swiftly through his messy hair one more time, something was stirring him up and his emotions suddenly got the better of him. A single tear slid gently down his cheek and it silently sparkled in the silvery moonlit night.
Everything suddenly became alive, the bright sunrise seeped through into their minds and it was if their thoughts suddenly came clear to them. Birds sung with joy as the morning light joined with the daily routines of the day. Ivy pulled herself sleepily up off her arm, wondering what the time was. That night it had been rough, but she knew now something had to be done.
David hadn’t moved since he sat under the old tree the night before. His back and neck ached and he tried to rub the soreness away, through hardly succeeded. The brilliant warm morning light called out to him, telling him what he should do next. A warm smile grew on his chapped lips; he knew exactly what to do.
That afternoon, he reran his plan over his mind. It was going to happen, no matter what. She had come around the corner on cue, a bright radiating smile lingered around her lips. It was the path she always took to university and the place where he first met her. He walked casually up to where she sat to take the bus and sat down as if it were a normal day. It was now he was going to be happy and satisfied of knowing she knew that he loved her.

It was if her life was planned out from the start, everything she wanted came into existence in front of her all the time and now the thing she needed the most needed her too. Everything around her suddenly became different, she saw things in new ways and it was the most amazing feeling that she ever had. She would never forget this day, no matter what, the day David looked her softly in the eyes and said “I love you”.
