HEARTS AND SPACESHIPS: a sonnet
O man, as you build rockets and spaceships To traverse skies and go beyond the stars, I hope you know that your adventure this, Will one day cause a global conflict, wars. To earth I sent you hoping you would love Your brothers, sisters, all of my children. But your eyes are fixed at the skies above, While hunger stalks a billion men, women. No, please don’t try to come near my heavens. I’ll come down myself and bless a meek heart, I love him who a hungry man beckons And feeds him, wipes his tears and gives comfort. Earth’s men and women, just remember this: To only kind hearts I shall grant a wish. • Initially written as entry 439127 in the book FAITH, NATURE & INSPIRATIONAL, "FAITH, NATURE & INSPIRATIONAL" . • Awarded Honorable Mention prize in Poetry From The Soul Contest, "Invalid Item" M C Gupta 8 July 2006
