 How is the heart treacherous?

The heart is treacherous ... yes.

But ... perhaps only because we have not trained it properly. We have not fortified it with principles, attuned it to God's guidance.

If we have not done this ... then we are using our hearts as mere reactionary mechanisms ... and not actionable drivers of our conciousness.

We are reacting to superficial inclinations, whims, misplaced sympathies, external stimuli, a fear of not following the status quo, a fear of releasing our life preserver in a large, unfriendly ocean. Yes ... we are reacting to fear mainly.

On the other hand, truly following our hearts takes courage and reasoning and is not easy. A heart attuned properly will tell you to do things that you'd rather not at the moment. It will tell you to wait when you'd rather force situations. It will tell you to run when you'd rather stroll. It will urge you to overcome your fears, take leaps of faith ... and force you completely out of your comfort zone.

So, how do you know you are following your heart when it is busy scaring you half to death most of the time?

Because ... at the end of the day ... when all of the hard work is ended ... you will have a soul-level calmness, a sense of rightness, a peace that cannot be bought but that comes with acting within your God-given psyche and not outside of it.

People who truly follow their hearts are not whim-driven people. On the contrary, they are people who are in tune with themselves, with their actual needs and desires ... not superficial whims which lie on the surface and are merely symptoms of deeper conflict. Genuinely heart-driven people are persons with a strong sense of their individual self, their connectivity to God, and a lot of bravery.

Consider a quote of mine:

"I follow my heart, yes. But, it is an organ I know well ... because I am always actively training it, housebreaking it, domesticating it, and tuning it into the frequency of God."
