Carrie Porter told her daughter, “I think if your friends went to all the trouble of setting up this date you should appreciate it.”

Angie replied, “I didn’t ask them to fix me up.  I don’t need anybody to find dates for me.”

“But you aren’t finding any, are you?  And you are thirty one.”

“Thank you for the update.  Is that a not-so-nice way of saying beggars can’t be choosers?”

“Of course not, I just want to see you happy.  Settled, provided for.”

“It was your generation that thought settled and provided for meant married.”

“Don’t get snippy with me about my generation! “

“All right I said I would meet this man and I will.  But if he is so smart and wonderful and has such a good job and so on why does he need his aunt to find dates for him?”

Angie opened the door when the bell rang.  The man who stood there with a bunch of flowers in his hand looked as if he felt like a fish out of water.  “I’m Wayne Kendal he said holding out the flowers.
“These are for you.”

“They’re lovely. Come in.  I’m Angela Porter and this is my mom.”

Wayne shifted his feet and said, “Look, my aunt and the people she works with set this up.  If you don’t want to —”

“I know.  They set me up, too.”
“I really would like to get to know you.”

“That sounds good,” she smiled.  He held her coat for her,

As Carrie put the flowers in water, she thought “He looks like a nice boy.”
