Addiction
I created this poem for Spidey's Weekly Poetry contest and the subject is addiction.

It takes control though I say no
It takes me places I don't want to go
It does not listen when I say go away

It tells me what it thinks I need
I struggle and fight to no avail
I say no again but again it ignores my pleas
It does what it wants since I don't count

I finally scream at it to stop
It pauses thinking I'm too weak to do more
As it starts taking over again I shove it away
My life is mine I shout over and over and over

It finally starts to weaken
Until it slowly slinks away lurking in the shadows
Waiting until it can take control again
