FRIENDS LIKE YOU
Friends like you are misnomers, A slur on the name ‘friend’. An enemy does not hide He is like a fiend. Friends like you beguile at first, Then, deceptively steal. Compared to the enemy’s, A friend’s wound does not heal. Friends like you are like a snake That bites the hand that feeds. When friends show ingratitude Then the heart simply bleeds. Friends like you are best kept at Not an arm’s, a pole’s length. The more the meanness, it gives To you all the more strength. So therefore to you my friend I bid final adieu. Ere you harm me further, I Vow never to see you. * Written in abcb rhyme, 7-6-7-6 meter * Awarded third place in the “A Broken Heart Poetry Contest”, "Invalid Item" M C Gupta 1 August 2008
