SOUNDS OF SILENCE

SOUNDS OF SILENCE

Sounds of silence are so sharp!
They pierce my tranquil heart.
They so work upon my mind,
I wake up with a start.

Silent are my days and nights
And silent are my dreams.
My sleeping, waking moments
Are full of silent screams.

Was I bestowed with silence
As I came to this world?
Was I, from the beginning,
Always denied a word?

No, there was a time when I
Spoke and was spoken to.
But my speech became my bane;
To silence I withdrew.

Now I and my silence are
Just inseparable.
Within my own silence now,
To hear sounds, I’m able.
