                                          Ghazal 155

   

Persian:  Hazaar shukr keh deedam ba kaam e khaishat baaz
              Tura ba kaam e khud o baa to khaish ra damsaaz
Urdu:      Manao jashn keh aata hay wo ba sad andaaz
              Sunao naghma keh hota hay aaj wo damsaaz

English:=== Thank God at last she has come around
                  In me a lover she has finally found
                                              -

Persian:  Ravindagaan e haqiqat reh e bala saparand
              Rafeeq e ishq cheh gham daarad az nasheeb o faraaz
Urdu:      Reh e bala say daraen kuin ravindagaan haq kay
              Rafeeq e ishq ko kuin ho gham e nashaeb o faraaz

English:=== The way of a mystic is full of woes
                  With ups, and downs, and highs, and lows 
                                                  -

Persian:  Gham e habib nihaan beh zay justojoo e raqeeb
              Keh neest seena e arbaab e keena mehram e raaz
Urdu:      Gham e habib chhupa kay rakho raqeeboun say
              Naheen hay seena e arbaab e keena mehram e raaz

English:=== It's best to hide from your rival the pain
                  For he is so haughty, so worthless, so vain
                                                -

Persian:  Cheh fitna bood keh mashshata e qaza angaikht
              Keh kard nargis e mastash siyeh ba surma e naaz
Urdu:      Yeh kya sitam hay keh mashshata e qaza o qadar
              Siyah ker gaie mast aankh ko ba surma e naaz

English:=== Oh, when mascara she puts on her lashes
                  She stabs my chest; my heart she slashes
                                                  -

Persian:  Badeen sapaas keh majlis munawwar ast ba doost
              Garat chu shamay jafaay rasad basooz o basaaz
Urdu:      Baraay skukr keh majlis hay yaar say roshan
              Misaal e shamay khamooshi say jal ba soaz o ba saaz

English:=== And when at night she comes to saloon
                  Her radiance makes it look like noon
                                                    -

Persian:  Malaamatay keh ba roo e mun aamad az gham e ishq
              Zay ashk purse hikaayat keh mun neeam ghammaaz   
Urdu:      Malaamat aaay gham e ishq ki badoulat kuin
              Hikayat ashk say poocho keh maen naheen ghammaaz

English:=== In love there're joys, and hopes, and fears
                  With an occasional laugh and a lot of tears
                                                    -

Persian:  Ummed e qadd e to meedaashtam zay bakht e buland
              Naseem e zulf e to meekhaastam zay umr e daraaz
Urdu:      Ummeed hay qadd e baala ki tujh say bakht e buland
              Naseem e zulf ki tujh say talab hay umr e daraaz

English:=== But she's so lovely, so tall, so slim
                  And keeps her hair hair in such a trim
                                                    -

Persain:  Zay haay haay shabaana nagashta am waaqif
              Ba haal e mun batarahham ba neem shab purdaaz
Urdu:      Zay haay haay shabaana nijaat ho mujh ko
              Jo aaay paas meray neem shab wo bandanawaaz

English:=== So when she gives me sorrow and pain
                  All night I sob and cry in vain
                                                    -

Persian:  Fagand zamzama e ishq dar Hijaaz o Iraaq
              Nawa e baang e ghazalha e HAFIZ e Shiraaz
Urdu:      Bani hay zamzama e ishq dar Hijaaz o Iraaq
              Nawa e baang e ghazalha e HAFIZ e Shiraaz                       

English:=== But, HAFIZ, when I do hear you recite
                  I feel that this world is quite all right
