                                          Ghazal 157


Persian:  Janaan tura keh guft keh ahwaal e ma mapoorse
              Baigaana gard o qissa e heetch aashna ma poorse
Urdu:      Masoom ban kay qissa e jour o jafa na poochh
              Bigaangi say haal e dil e aashna na poochh

English:=== Who told you, my love, to ignore your lover
                  And his selfish rival over him to prefer?
                                                  -

Persian:  Mun zooq e dard e ishq e to daanam na muddaie
              Az shoola poorse haal, zay perwaana wa mapoorse
Urdu:      Ham ko hay zouq e dard e dil o ranj e aashqi
              Hay waasta raqeeb ka ulfat say kya na poochh

English:=== Knows not my rival the sorrow and pain
                  Just hurt him a little and he will complain
                                                      -

Persian:  Aan ja keh lutf e kaamil o khulq e hareem e tust
              Jurm e guzishta afu kun o maajra mapoorse
Urdu:      Too mehrbaan kareem hay, too hay khaleeq jab
              Maeri khataaen bukhsh day, kuchh majra na poochh

English:=== You are so noble, so sweet, so kind
                  A way to forgive me you can always find
                                                  -

Persian:  Khahi keh rooshanat shawad ahwaal e sirr e ishq
              Az shamay poorse qissa, zay baad e saba mapoorse
Urdu:      Chahay agar keh tujh pay khulay raaz e aashqi
              Az shamay qissa poochh, zay baad e saba na poochh

English:=== The secret of love if you want to know
                  Ask not the flame; to the moth you go
                                                    -

Persian:  Az dilqpoosh e soomia naqd e talab majoo
              Yaani zay muflisaan sukhan e keemia mapoorse
Urdu:      Shaikhoun say maang doulat e shouq o talab na kuchh
              Yaani zay muflisaan sukhan e keemia na poochh

English:=== Love and devotion are beyond the preacher
                  And he's so fake, he can't be a teacher
                                                    -

Persian:  Dar daftar e tabeeb e khirad baab e ishq neest
              Aey dil ba dard khoo kun o naam e dawa mapoorse
Urdu:      Hay daftar e tabeeb e khirad maen na baab e ishq
              Khu daal dard o ranj ki, naam e dawa na poochh

English:=== Yearning and passion know not the wise
                  For above their logic they cannot rise
                                                    -

Persian:  Naqsh e huqooq e khidmat o ikhlaas o bandagi
              Az loh e seena mehv kun o naam e ma mapoorse
Urdu:      Naqsh e huqooq e khidmat o tasleem o bandagi
              Sab dil say dour ker, mera naam aur pata na poochh

English:=== Sincere and earnest a sheik can't be
                  And he can see no good in a fool like me
                                                      -

Persian:  Ma qissa e Sikander o Daara nakhaanda aim
              Az ma ba juz hikaayat e mehr o wafa mapoorse
Urdu:      Ham qissa e Sikander o Daara ka kya karaen
              Ham say ba juz hikaayat e mehr o wafa na poochh

English:=== For know I little about wealth and power
                  But ask me about the bird and the flower
                                                    -

Persian:  HAFIZ raseed mousam e gul, maarfat makhaan
              Daryaab naqd e umr, zay chun o chira mapoorse
Urdu:      HAFIZ bahaar aaie, na ker zikr e maarfat
              Lay naqd e umr, qissa e chun o chira na poochh

English:=== But HAFIZ says - you do not philosophize
                  When the spring is here, you just socialize
                                                      ====
