Starting School

Butterflies in my stomach,
I can’t even eat breakfast.
Who will be in my class this year?
Who will be my teachers?
Why do I even have to go to school?

My clothes will be all wrong,
I just know it.
Why couldn’t Mom let me pick them out?
Arghh! I’ll be the laughing stock of seventh grade.
Doesn’t she understand?

I’m feeling kind of sick to my stomach.
I might even manage to throw up… if I try.
Maybe that would buy me some time.
Nah…I’d just have to face it tomorrow.
I think I’ll ask to be home-schooled!

Better yet, I’ll be a dropout!
All the kids will think I’m cool,
just hanging out at the skate park.
Wait a minute…all my friends will be in school.
Only losers hang out at the park all day.

I’m not a loser. I’m a pretty cool kid.
Who cares what others say or think?
I’m going to school with my real friends.
What am I so worried about?
By next week I’ll be a pro at being a seventh grader.
